Connecting a Custom Domain and Configuring DNS Records

Connect your own domain (such as blog.yourdomain.com) on the Pro plan with step-by-step CNAME DNS instructions and automatic SSL provisioning.

On the Pro plan, you can serve your publication from your own custom domain with automatic SSL/TLS certificate provisioning.

Step 1: Add Your Domain in Site Settings

Open Site Settings in your Dashboard and scroll to the Custom Domain card. Enter your desired domain (for example, blog.yourdomain.com) and click Save.

Step 2: Configure Your DNS Provider

Sign in to your DNS provider (such as Cloudflare, Namecheap, Route 53, or GoDaddy) and add the following CNAME record:

text
Type: CNAME
Name: blog (or your chosen subdomain)
Target: modernblogging.netlify.app
TTL: Auto or 3600
ℹ️

If you are using Cloudflare DNS, set the proxy status to DNS Only (gray cloud) during initial verification so SSL certificates can be issued immediately.

Step 3: Verify DNS Propagation

Return to the Custom Domain card in Site Settings and click Verify DNS. Once DNS propagation completes (typically within 1 to 15 minutes), your custom domain will be marked verified and HTTPS traffic will route to your blog automatically.
