Getting Started with Modern Blogging: Complete Setup Guide

Launch your publication in minutes. Learn how to claim your subdomain, create authors and categories, configure site branding, and publish your first article.

Modern Blogging is designed so you can go from signup to a live, search-optimized publication in under five minutes. Every blog includes a dedicated content database, global CDN delivery, automatic image optimization, and built-in SEO controls.

Step 1: Provision Your Subdomain

Visit the Get Started page and sign in with your email address or Google account. Choose a unique subdomain (for example, yourname.modernblogging.net). Once provisioned, your blog is immediately live and accessible worldwide.

Step 2: Create Your Author Profile

Before publishing your first post, set up at least one author profile so articles display a complete byline and author archive page:

  1. Open your Dashboard and select Authors in the left navigation.
  2. Click New Author and enter your display name, role or title (for example, Senior Editor), and biography.
  3. Upload a square profile photo and add optional links to your website, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, or YouTube profiles.
  4. Save the author profile. Your author archive page will automatically be generated at /author/your-slug.

Step 3: Organize Topic Categories

Categories group related articles into dedicated topic hubs and power your site navigation:

  1. Navigate to Categories in your Dashboard and click New Category.
  2. Provide a clear name, URL slug, and description explaining what readers will find in that section.
  3. Optionally customize the Category Feed Layout if you want a specific category to use a distinct grid arrangement.

Step 4: Configure Site Branding and Navigation

Open Site Settings to tailor the look and structure of your publication:

  • General: Set your blog title, optional subtitle, language code, logo, and footer copyright text.
  • Colors & Theme: Choose your header background, navigation text color, accent color, and footer palette.
  • Feed Layouts: Configure how posts are arranged on your homepage, category pages, and author archives.
  • Navigation: Add links to your top categories, static pages, or external URLs in the header and footer menus.

Step 5: Write and Publish Your First Post

Go to Posts and click New Post. Write your headline and body in the rich text editor, upload a cover image with descriptive alt text, select your author and primary category in the right sidebar, and click Publish.

ℹ️

Your changes are automatically saved as a draft while you write. You can preview unpublished edits at any time before clicking Publish.
